Garage Door Orientation

Garage entry doors garage to home entry doors may be an exception to the inward swinging rule.

Garage door orientation.

The reason your gear is not rotating both ways is your sensors are not completing their circuit. Usually you will have two springs on your door which will be color coded. If the open doorknob is on your right side it s a right hand door. If there s a fire or explosion in the garage the outward swinging door blocks damage to the interior of the home more effectively than an inward swinging door.

Most of the time the end on the right hand wind is red and the left and wind is black as you can see on the graphic below. When the garage door touches the wood it should immediately reverse direction and begin to rise. As the garage door is lowering quickly pass your foot in the path of the closing garage door. If it s on your left side the door is left handed.

Could be wiring or bad sensors if that doesn t fix it since your new gear was put in. Some builders have them swing inward to the garage instead of the home for safety reasons. To determine the door swing while replacing an existing door step into the doorway with your back to the hinges standing sideways in the opening facing the jamb where the door latches. Most likely you ll just realign and be on your way.

Check the alignment of your sensors.
