Paint a thin layer of adhesive over the first felt layer. These thick layers of roofing felt are installed by heating the back of the felt with a butane torch and then carefully applying it to the roof. Sometimes called roofing felt underlayment roofing tar paper or roll roofing this is a layer of protection installed between the roof deck and the roofing shingles. Generally felt underlay roof works by combining two or three layers of material together to make an impenetrable barrier that is then coated with a waterproof finishing material to further protect the felt.

The rolls of felt are quite heavy and to avoid damage must be handled with care. Some roofing felts are actually glued down. A third layer of felt needs to be placed. In terms of spacing leave about 6 inches between nails along both of the short sides and the side lying next to the edge of the roof.
